Questions We Imagine We'd Get Frequently Asked If Anyone Knew We Existed
Q: What is Frothy Music?
A: A very, very small record label and music publishing company based in Southern California.
Q: Why are you starting a record label?
A: Because it seems like it could be fun. And someone needed to handle the business aspect of Zak Claxton's album, so we thought it might as well be us.
Q: Are you going to sign a bunch of artists right away?
A: No, but not because we don't want to. Frothy Music is what you'd call a boutique label. Actually, it probably isn't even as big as a boutique label. We're not very interested in selling a bunch of singles and albums, nor placing a bunch of songs in movies and games and commercials. In any case, we'd be doing our artists a big disservice by making promises we can't keep. We'll let people know when we're interested in having more artists join the Frothy roster.
Q: So, you're not interested in selling music. What good are you?
A: We want to help artists who truly believe in their music for the sake of the music. Many people we know in the music community are talented and deserve to have their music made available for purchase, or at least have their songs out there where people can discover and listen to them. Many of those people just don't know how to do that, and we do (or at least we're learning how now). In any case, we don't judge music based on whether we feel it will be popular in any sense of the word. But we do know a few things about getting music placed in places where it can be heard and appreciated by like-minded people. If our artists can also sell some music, then we'll all be happy. But "big sales" isn't our driving force.
Q: Is Frothy Music a label for a specific genre of music?
A: No, quite the contrary. We're interested in many kinds of music, from roots rock to alt country to indie folk to contemporary jazz to things that we don't even have words to describe. The only criteria for being on Frothy is that a) we enjoy listening to the music, and b) that the music is genuine and heartfelt and has a vibe. That could encompass anything from solo acoustic guitar to electronica.
Q: Okay, can you sign me now?
A: Even if we wanted to, we're not ready yet. But give us awhile to get things sorted out. We may be able to work with you in ways you're not considering at the moment, though. Please contact us to discuss.
